(01) · The challenge
A festival outgrowingits website.
Since 2021 FASADA has turned Sarajevo into an open air gallery: 30+ murals, dozens of international artists, guided tours and workshops. The old website could not carry that story.
fasadafestival.com, before
- One static landing page and a bare list of artists
- 30+ murals across the city, none of them mapped
- No interaction, no motion, no reason to return
- A community festival with no place for its community
The brief
Make the city itself the interface.
Turn the festival's murals, editions and people into a digital experience with the same energy as the walls: raw type, sticker colours and spray paint in every interaction.

(02) · Before
This wasthe whole site.
Every screen the old website had, captured in full. One landing page, one list of editions, a footer. That was the entire digital home of the festival.

Same festival,
new energy.
The old site introduced the festival. The new one lets you walk through it: the same walls, now alive on screen.
Before · a static landing
After · a living gallery, 13 pages

(04) · Brand new
Pages thatdid not exist.
An interactive map, a graffiti school and an About section that finally tells the story: vision, values, pillars and the people behind it.

The cityas a gallery.
An interactive Street Art Map turns every mural into a destination: photos, bilingual stories and a direct Google Maps link for each wall, with three curated walking tours drawn through the city.

Walking tours
- Geolocation sorts murals by distance from the visitor
- Search plus 8 filters by neighbourhood and type
- Dark cartography with numbered pins and dashed tour routes
- On mobile it behaves like a standalone app with 3 tabs

(06) · Feature · Community Blackbook
A wallthe audience paints.
The Community Blackbook makes the website part of the festival. Visitors sketch their tag right in the browser or upload their own piece, and every work lands in a public flipbook. Try it below.Try it on the left.
- Canvas drawing pad, 3 brush widths, 5 colours
- Image upload with a per year public archive
- 3D flipbook pages through every submission
- Lives inside a 4 lesson graffiti school page
Why it matters
The audience stops being a visitor and becomes a participant. Every submission is a reason to come back and share the site.
(07) · Feature · Archive
Six editions,one archive.
A bare list of names became a colour coded archive: every edition carries its artists with bios, photo galleries, animated statistics and a full event program.

(08) · Mobile
Built forthe pocket.
Most visitors find the festival on their phone. The whole experience is designed for one thumb: posters, cards and stories that scroll like social media. The map behaves like a native app.
- Three tabs: Map, Feed and Tours, like a native app
- Search and filters within a thumb's reach
- Geolocation sorts murals by distance while you walk
- The full screen menu keeps its poster typography
(09) · The solution
A design systemborn on the street.
Typography
Poster type
Condensed display headlines with a ghost stroke variant, Inter for reading, monospace labels for the utilitarian, wheat pasted feel.
Palette
Near black canvas, one spray green primary, six sticker accents.
- 01Rounded24 to 48 px radii everywhere, no sharp corners on the whole site.
- 02TiltedCards lean like stickers on a lamppost and straighten on hover.
- 03SprayedA spray can cursor, dripping paint on click, blur reveal titles.
13 pages · Full screen colour coded menu · Blur page transitions · Scroll reactive marquee · 100% mobile first
(10) · Under the hood
Modern stack,street attitude.
A fast single page app talking to a typed REST API, deployed on global CDN hosting.
- FrontendReact 19 + TypeScriptVite 6 build tooling and Tailwind CSS 4 for a strict, token driven design system in code.
- MotionFramer Motion 12Spring physics for sticker cards, scroll velocity marquees and blur reveal titles, with reduced motion support.
- MapsLeaflet + Google MapsDark tile cartography, custom numbered pins, dashed tour polylines and browser geolocation.
- APINode.js + ExpressA typed REST backend in its own repo: blackbook submissions, yearly archives and health checks, CORS locked to the site.
- ContentTyped data modelsEditions, programs and all 30 map locations live as structured, bilingual TypeScript data, easy to extend every year.
- HostingFirebase HostingGlobal CDN delivery with a PWA manifest, sitemap and SEO meta baked in from day one.
